Hon. John P. Schettino is a former Suffolk County District Court Judge. While on the bench, he presided over civil trials from 2016- 2019. In 2020 he was appointed as Acting Suffolk County Court Judge, where he served in the Alternative Dispute Resolution part conducting settlement conferences in personal injury cases through 2021.

Judge Schettino’s twenty-seven-year legal career as a trial attorney included time in private practice from 2002-2009 as well as a position as an in-house attorney for GEICO Insurance Company from 2009-2014, and with Crum & Forster Insurance Company’s in-house counsel from 1987-2002. In 2007, Judge Schettino was appointed to the Town of Islip Planning Board, where he served from 2007-2012, and then as Chairman from 2012-2014.

While attending law school in the evenings, he worked as a paralegal with Crum and Foster Commercial Insurance Company’s in-house counsel, and he continued working there as an in-house attorney after his graduation. Before attending law school, Judge Schettino worked as a Loss Control Representative for Hartford Insurance Company, where he evaluated and consulted with commercial insureds in risk management, mainly with construction contractors, manufacturers, and commercial fleets.
