Hon. Edward D. Burke, Sr. (Ret.)

Hon. Edward D. Burke, Sr. served as a judge for the New York State Court of Claims and as an Acting Justice in the Supreme Court in Riverhead from 2000-2007. While in that position, he spent two years in the Trial Assignment Part and coordinated and presided over numerous jury trials.

Justice Burke served as a Southampton Town Justice in the Southampton Town Justice Court from 1994-2000 and again from 2008-2015. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1961-1967, and prior to that, he worked as a structural ironworker in Union Local 40.

He has been a senior partner in the law firm of Burke & Sullivan, PLLC since 1970, where he practices real estate and land use law, concentrating his practice in the townships of Southampton and East Hampton.

Justice Burke is the proud husband of Carol Burke, father to attorneys Denise Burke-O’Brien, Edward Burke, Jr., and Joseph Burke, and grandfather to Nolan, Gavin and Fallon O’Brien and Matthew, Edward, and Brendan Burke.
