Steven L. Levitt, Esq.
Mediator/Arbitrator
Steven L. Levitt is the founder and principal of Levitt LLP. Over the course of his career, Steven has tried and/or resolved in excess of $2.8 billion worth of complex (and often highly technical) business, contract, business divorce, and trade secrets disputes before trial courts, appellate courts, and arbitration tribunals across the country, as well as internationally.
He brings his extensive negotiation, trial and mediation experience to Mediation Solutions as an arbitrator and mediator in commercial, contract and trade secret matters.
Steven has represented companies of all sizes, including household names, across Long Island, New York City, and beyond, including L3 Harris, Loral Corporation, Mercury Systems, Inc., East Coast Petroleum, Inc., GFI Capital Resources Group, Inc., Snapple Beverage Corp., and Hartz Mountain Industries, Inc., as well as numerous well-known law firms, accounting firms, and medical practices. His party opponents have included the Sultan of Brunei, the Sultan of Oman, Lockheed Martin Corp., British defense contractor Serco, Inc., The Men’s Wearhouse, Inc., global freight forwarder Kalitta Air LLC, and Westchester real estate mogul John Fareri.
Steven was chosen as one of three lawyers to represent a group of six high profile law firms following a landmark products liability lawsuit against the tobacco industry. He defended a business unit of a Fortune 200 Company as co-lead counsel against potential $2 billion exposure arising from aircraft modifications, first succeeding in obtaining a unanimous jury verdict for the client, then in affirming the verdict on appeal, and finally, in defeating the plaintiff’s application to have the case heard by the U.S. Supreme Court.
He is frequently called on to oversee teams of attorneys across different law firms, in multi-venue litigations. In one matter, the team overturned a jury verdict against the client in excess of $125 million. In a second matter, the team overturned a jury verdict against the client in excess of $37 million plus plaintiff’s counsel’s request for approximately $16 million in legal fees as a result of plaintiff’s misconduct during discovery. In a third matter, over the course of a decade-long, multi-jurisdiction litigation, the team obtained two appellate court reversals of trial court rulings, and then successfully resolved the dispute, which involved allegations of thefts of trade secrets and bid-rigging with a prime contractor to wrongfully obtain nuclear readiness subcontracting work that the client had performed for many years for the U.S. Military. He continues to oversee counsel in various jurisdictions nationwide, including Nevada, Oregon, Wisconsin, and Connecticut.
Over approximately the past year alone, he has won trials and arbitrations where the amounts at issue totaled in excess of $50 million. He also recently acted as lead counsel for the seller in the complex, multi-million dollar sale of the historic Maidstone Hotel in East Hampton.
He has been profiled in such publications as Forbes, The New York Times, The New York Law Journal, The New Yorker, The Real Deal, The Long Island Pulse, The Long Island Herald, and Newsday, among others. He has been recognized by Super Lawyers Magazine as a New York Metro Super Lawyer, for 11 years running.
Steven has lectured at the Hofstra University School of Law, and actively involved in his community, including as a sitting member of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the Incorporated Village of Muttontown.
He is available for mediation or arbitration virtually, or Islandia, New York City or Westhampton Beach offices, or at our Easthampton or Southampton offices for multi-day proceedings.
