Hon. Vincent J. Martorana
Mediator
Hon. Vincent J. Martorana embarks on his career with Mediation Solutions after a prominent legal career both in private practice and on the bench.
While on the bench, he became known as a judge who was proficient at helping litigants settle their cases; in 2024 alone, he settled over 60 cases. Many of the attorneys appearing before him acknowledged that those settlements would not have been achieved without his aid. One plaintiff’s counsel said, “This result would not have been achieved but for your efforts. I wish I could bring all my cases before you.” Defense counsel for a major insurer noted, “The parties could not have resolved this case without your active involvement.”
Justice Martorana served on the Supreme Court bench in Suffolk County from 2018-2024, and prior to that as a Suffolk County District Court Judge in the First and Fifth Districts from 2012-2018.
Before ascending to the bench, he worked at Bert W. Subin, Esq. from 1979-1982, at Martorana & Montiglio from 1982-1984, and finally on his own beginning in 1984. During those years, he focused his practice on personal injury, insurance law, contracts, and medical malpractice.
In June 2000, he completed the Mediation Training Program of the Unified Court System of the State of New York, and later that same year, he was appointed as a mediator to handle attorney/client disputes by the Appellate Division, Second Department.
While in private practice, Justice Martorana was a member of a bi-partisan legislative reapportionment committee for the Suffolk County Legislature from December 2001 until January 2003. During that same time, he served on the Board on Electric Generating Citing and the Environment from the Town of Brookhaven for the State of New York Department of Public Service.
Throughout his career, Justice Martorana has been an active member of numerous bar associations and other professional organizations, including several trial lawyers’ committees, the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association, and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committees of the American Bar Association, the Brooklyn Bar Association, and the Suffolk County Bar Association.
In 2015, Justice Martorana was honored as Man of the Year by the Suffolk County Court Officers Association. He also received Man of the Year honors from the Columbian Lawyers of Suffolk County in 2005 and from the Sons of Italy/John Bosco Lodge in 1995.
He received his Juris Doctor from St. John’s University Law School in 1976, and a BA from Queens College in 1971. He was admitted to the practice of law before in the Appellate Division, Second Department in 1978, to the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York in 1979, and to the United States Supreme Court in 1984.
Judge Martorana brings his experience as a jurist, in private practice, and in mediating and settling disputes to Mediation Solutions. He will provide mediation services both virtually and in person in our Islandia office.

Comments on Judge Martorana’s mediation skills:
“Your forthright approach and demonstrated commitment made the difference for everyone.”
“We write to thank Your Honor for your diligent efforts over the past several months that ultimately brought this matter to a resolution. Your perseverance and willingness to work with both parties over the course of several settlement conferences resulted in a fair and equitable settlement in a case where such a resolution may not otherwise have been achieved at this stage of the case.”
“I am writing to express my appreciation for your hard work and persistence during the mediation. You gave myself and defense counsel extra time with you to work out the issues, which is rare. I am certain that, but for your efforts, this matter would have needlessly gone deeper into litigation and through a trial. The time and money that all sides would have lost in litigating this case would have likely been a barrier to a just outcome.”
